UIC faculty, administrators, and staff are especially encouraged to attend this event, which aims to provide knowledge and understanding about Arab American communities at UIC and in Chicagoland. Speakers will share findings from UIC's IRRPP report about the status of racial and economic justice for Arab Americans in Chicagoland. Themes include: demographics and migration patterns, access to social services, and engagements with racism in these areas: education, policing, and employment. The event will focus on the implications of these findings for UIC's large Arab American student population and the campus at large. This event is part of broader efforts at UIC to counter the erasure of Middle East/North Africa topics and students at UIC and challenge the ongoing racial stereotypes that impact Arab/Arab American students in various areas of campus life.
Event is co-sponsored by the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Engagement, The Arab American Cultural Center, The Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy, Critical Middle East Studies Working Group of the Institute for the Humanities.
