Critical Middle East Studies Working Group of the Institute for the Humanities in Collaboration with the Arab American Cultural Center present:

War and Visual Politics in Palestine/Israel: A Conversation with Rebecca Stein

How do activists use smartphones and technology to bear witness and document Israeli state violence and colonization? How do the Israeli state and international Zionist movements respond to the perceived threat of these new technologies? Rebecca Stein will facilitate a discussion on the visual culture of warfare and settler colonialism in Palestine/Israel today.

Rebecca Stein is Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Duke University. She studies the cultural politics of militarism in Israel and the history of Palestinian dispossession. Her most recent books examine the impact of new communication technology on the everyday Israeli relationship to military occupation: Digital Militarism: Israel's Occupation in the Social Media Age and Screen Shots: State Violence on Camera in Israel and Palestine.
